Description

Our Managers are creative project leaders who guide and manage team members to craft visionary yet practical solutions for our industry partners and research. As a manager at RMI, you will be a primary project manager, and work closely with and under the direction of RMI’s Principals and Managing Directors to design and execute projects. In this role, you will also be the lead subject matter expert within the Program regarding digital solutions.

Your role in the team will include contributing to the creation of a digitally native system for supply chain accountability. You will be conceiving, designing and implementing an open-source, blockchain-based, traceability platform and a GHG emissions attribution protocol. This platform and protocol will be usable by anyone to define, track, and trace emissions, report disclosures, trade differentiated commodities (i.e., physical goods + digital attributes), and their associated credit certificates (GHG emissions offsets and insets).

In the day-to-day, this will take the form of deep research into existing GHG emissions accounting and disclosure tools, collaborating with internal and external GHG accounting experts, and working closely with a team of software developers to create data solutions for supply chain emissions traceability.

Your core responsibilities as a Manager include the above, and:

  • Manage projects to yield breakthrough insights and results
  • With senior guidance, shape project strategies from inception to conclusion: determine change models, research methods, timelines, resource plans, communications plans, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Determine how results will be measured and be accountable for project results, rigorously challenging and QC-ing findings from RMI teams and partners.
  • Act as the lead relationship manager with project partners and stakeholders, validating technical concepts and activating the market.
  • Research and evaluate hardware and software technology options and weigh the cost/benefit analysis of collaborative opportunities.
  • Manage and guide more junior staff (particularly Associates and sometimes Sr. Associates) and sometimes play the role of an individual contributor. Develop solutions to effectively address key questions and challenges posed by our research goals and clients.
  • Work with Principals and Managing Directors to provide mentorship, professional development, and project reviews of more junior staff.
  • Coach and motivate project team members and resolve any issues throughout project life cycle, including writing project-level reviews for junior staff.
  • Work with Principals and Managing Directors to provide mentorship, professional development, and project reviews of more junior staff.
  • Oversee teams that number between 2 to 25 contributors (internal and external).
  • Provide thought leadership
  • Lead and contribute to research efforts and publications.
  • Regularly contribute to external interviews, videos, and publications to share project insights.
  • Represent RMI as an industry expert at key conferences and other public speaking events.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments at the nexus between digitization/blockchain and climate change mitigation.
  • Contribute to strategy-level conversations about initiatives and RMI.
  • Support the development and implementation of a strategy for the Digitization portion of the Horizon Zero project.
  • Exercise developed expertise in digitization and be conversant in GHG accounting and market activation.
  • Represent RMI externally at mid-level technical events and to small- to mid-sized groups.
  • Participate in business development and sometimes have a significant role in that area.
  • Work hand-in-hand with our development team to develop funding strategies.
