Description

The Institutional Giving Specialist position is a unique opportunity for a mission-driven individual to be part of a rapidly-growing, ambitious fundraising team. This individual will work closely with Development, Finance, and Program staff to collect and analyze data on program strategies and activities to produce LOIs, proposals, and reports for foundations, third-party funders, and the Board of Directors. This position will also manage a portfolio of up to 50 mid-level foundations and family foundations who are interested in supporting Greenpeace USA’s work, and occasionally donors supporting other Greenpeace international offices. The Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing donor cultivation and stewardship strategies, preparing proposals and reports tailored to these donors, facilitating coordinated donor engagement, and working with the Institutional Giving Grants Coordinator on grants processing, management, acknowledgements, and reporting.

This position will be based in Washington, DC (preferred), Oakland, CA, or New York, NY. (Other states where Greenpeace is registered may be considered.)

This role will be responsible for: 

  • Writing & Communication
    • Develop LOIs, proposals, reports, and other materials for donors (primarily high-level funding requests for the organization and campaigns)
    • Support other Institutional Giving staff on LOIs, concepts, and reports tailored to their donor portfolio–including technical, project-level proposals–through copywriting, editing, and coordination
    • Obtain and integrate regular updates from campaigns to continually refresh and strengthen written donor materials
    • Coordinate with internal colleagues to assemble budgets, graphics, presentations, etc.
    • Prepare written acknowledgement letters and other stewardship and cultivation materials
  • Portfolio Management
    • Manage engagement with a portfolio of up to 50 mid-level and family foundations, utilizing strategies that engage prospects and donors in an on-going conversation about Greenpeace activities. establish work plans necessary to cultivate, engage and steward donors;
    • Organize, attend, and staff donor meetings; Prepare briefing materials and advise program staff on how to present Greenpeace programmatic activities to donors and prospects.
    • Maintain comprehensive records of engagement with foundations in CRM. Work with Institutional Giving Grants Coordinator to track deadlines and maintain records.
    • Prepare regular reports to project and report on revenue from portfolio.
    • Expand existing portfolio through prospect research, event engagement, leveraging existing donor and staff relationships, etc.
  • Learning 
    • Attend internal trainings, brown bags, and standing department meetings to keep current on Greenpeace programs, reporting back to team members and advising on opportunities for donor engagement and solicitation.
    • Stay abreast of fundraising trends, as well as research and innovation in the environmental / international NGO sector, by participating in external webinars, trainings, and meetings.
