Description

The Maui Marine Project Manager develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods. The Project Manager reports to the Maui Marine Program Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Maui Marine Project Manager (PM) provides technical leadership and support to the Maui marine team and plans and directs project level management and stewardship with Maui Nui partners, including the Division of Aquatic Resources and local communities. The PM addresses critical threats to natural systems, fosters cross-site learning among conservation communities, and supplies conservation teams with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning and management processes. The PM develops and implements conservation strategies with partners, employs a full range of management tools to reduce threats to coastal and marine systems, and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities.  The PM coordinates community support and multiple Maui Nui marine projects, including, but not limited to:

  • Conduct science and survey work with TNCʻs Marine Science Director, statewide science team, and on-island partners and volunteers;
  • Create maps for marine projects and conduct GIS analyses; drive Seasketch for various projects;
  • Coach and contribute to community and conservation action planning to increase local capacity to co-manage coastal resources;
  • Communicate with community groups, agencies, and the public in a professional manner;
  • Supervise interns and volunteers with responsibility for training and development;
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the program and ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • Will be expected to provide assistance and respond to injuries by administering first aid or CPR while out working in the field or leading group events.
  • Ensures staff and volunteers are well trained in field safety procedures and are certified in all areas of safety requirements.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
