Description

The Associate Vice President – Economics and Policy Analysis will play a key role in the leadership of the Economics and Global Climate Policy group including co-leading a new Greenhouse Gas Pricing Center of Excellence, and report to Chief Economist Suzi Kerr. They will lead a team of PhD economists and partner with EDF teams and external partners working to:

  • Effectively and equitably use pricing mechanisms to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and ensure the world is on a pathway to meet global temperature goals
  • Develop strategic directions based on solid economic theory and evidence
  • Mobilize excellent academic economists to address unresolved issues of policy design and to provide evidence to assess potential policy and interventions and evaluate existing efforts
  • Provide empirical evidence to support policy advocacy including legal efforts
  • Support policy simulation models to assess, support and evaluate interventions
  • Contribute to EDF thinking on policies and actions to promote equity and on integration of economics with diverse other types of knowledge
  • Provide advice on specific policy issues to support advocacy in timely way
  • Engage effectively with, and communicate key messages on economics and policy to, non-specialists

 Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and build a strong team of analysts ranging from experienced PhD modelers to junior analysts
  • Collaborate effectively across the matrixed organization to ensure that high quality economic insights and evidence are used throughout EDF
  • With the Vice President – Global Climate, develop a GHG pricing Center of Excellence and support implementation of a multi-year, organization-wide work plan designed to make EDF a recognized leader in the design and effective, equitable implementation of greenhouse gas pricing globally
  • Develop and manage external partnerships with globally excellent collaborators (Current collaborators include: Florence School of Regulation, Catholic University – Chile, Resources for the Future, European University Institute, University of the Andes – Colombia)
  • Leverage deep economic expertise to contribute to and co-create innovative policy approaches and solutions
  • Contribute to EDF thinking on the role of cost-benefit analysis in decision making and the use of metrics such as the social cost of carbon and methane
  • Engage with diverse key stakeholders to ensure EDF efforts are useful and used
  • Partner with the EDF communications team to ensure that work is sensitively and effectively communicated to support EDF goals
  • Serve as resource and strategic partner for EDF teams and partners working on policy and action in the U.S. and globally
  • Develop and maintain key internal and external relationships with individuals and entities working on the economics of policy
  • Ensure timely and concise communications to key supporters and collaborators, including donors, external partners, and the EDF executive team
  • Manage consultants and contracts, as appropriate
