The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the Health & Food Team in the People & Communities program in our San Francisco (or Washington, DC) offices.

The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to multiple NRDC staff who work within the People and Community Program’s Health & Food Division. On occasion, addressing general needs within the People and Communities Program will be required in collaboration with program assistants in other NRDC offices.

The Program Assistant will support members of NRDC’s Health & Food Division. The team’s work covers issues ranging from food and agriculture to food waste to toxics and drinking water, through a range of tactics including local, state and federal policy, consumer education and market campaigns, and research.

The individual in this position will provide administrative and logistical support to assist the programs’ advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Providing general administrative and logistical support to policy and scientific staff across multiple offices.
  • Budgeting and accounting support including processing invoices and monthly expenses, tracking budgets, and maintaining contracts and financial records
  • Work with internal subject matter experts to coordinate grant proposals, renewals, and report submissions
  • Managing and maintaining paper and electronic filing systems and databases
  • Scheduling and organizing large meetings, assist with event planning and management, which may require working with external parties
  • Proofreading, formatting, and helping prepare and track legal documents, advocacy letters, reports, fact sheets, and other project materials
  • Researching questions related to advocacy as time allows.
  • Assisting the receptionist and other program assistants as needed
  • Occasional travel
  • Performing other duties as assigned
