Description

In this position, you will develop technical inputs on energy, industry, transport, and the built environment for the Systems Change Lab’s monitoring platform. Your work will entail validating the list of required shifts for each sector, establishing evidence-based targets for each shift, identifying the underlying conditions of positive change, developing a list of best available indicators to track progress, and working with leading data providers to identify high-quality, publicly available datasets for each indicator. You will also support regular assessments of progress, contribute to annual reports, and conduct research on case studies of systems change within these sectors. In doing so, you will work closely with technical experts and partners across government, civil society, and the private sector, as well as researchers within WRI’s Energy, Cities, and Climate programs. More broadly, you will also support the Lab’s communications and outreach efforts, maintain and cultivate key partnerships, and contribute to fundraising materials.  
This position is remote due to Covid-19, but you will be based in Washington, DC once restrictions have lifted.

Job Responsibilities:

Research and analysis (60%)

  • Help identify and validate appropriate indicators for tracking progress in energy, buildings, industry and transport sectors
  • Coordinate with the data team to find data sources for tracking progress in each sector
  • Support regular analysis of tracking progress towards energy, buildings, industry and transport benchmarks for 2030 and 2050
  • This will include writing on the state of progress towards key indicators in each sector for reports, our website, articles and other outreach materials

Project management (30%)

  • Liaise with internal teams across WRI, the High-Level Climate Champions and other partners on a regular basis to validate findings

Communications (10%)

  • Represent WRI and the Systems Change Lab at conferences, workshops and other events
  • Produce outreach materials for the Systems Change Lab.
