Description

The Lead, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) will lead the design and delivery of M&E activities for 1000L globally. As a key member of the Hub (the coalition’s collaborative management body), s/he will guide the Hub and the initiative’s four Design Teams in tracking progress, measuring outcomes, developing monitoring protocols and capturing learnings. The Lead, MEL will interact with the Design Teams and Landscape Partnerships to understand the ILM journey and learn about key assumptions made with regards to 1000L services provided. The role, funded by IKEA Foundation, a key financial partner to the initiative, will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, in proximity to key partner-supported landscapes. The 1000 Landscapes initiative is looking for a change-oriented and impact driven professional who operates well in a highly collaborative environment and is interested in taking a systemic view to change.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Global engagement (80%)

  • -Design an M&E system rooted in a theory of change that provides a frame for reflection and course corrections throughout the Design, Testing and Demonstration phase.
  • -On a recurring basis, synthesize and communicate progress against agreed workplans and deliverables to the Hub and Steering Committee, identifying risks and issues, and contribute to donor reporting.
  • -Guide Design Teams in drafting and applying monitoring protocols to assess the functionality and utility of 1000L services provided, with results informing improved design of 1000L services, and theory of change reviews.
  • -Working closely with landscape developers/leaders, identify and support the application of participative methodologies to collect quantitative and qualitative information on outcomes/KPIs, in key demonstration landscapes.    
  • -In close collaboration with the Hub, co-design and support the IKEA Foundation-led external evaluation process, as well as evaluations by other prospect donors.
  • -Contribute to the production of knowledge products through which learnings can be shared with 1000L partners, and globally.
  • -Support the development of the Global Scaling Phase Strategy (2024-2030).

National engagement (20%)

  • -Working closely with landscape developers/leaders in Kenya, observe the uptake of features promoted on the Terraso digital platform, in the Global Action Network, and services provided on Capacities Development and Finance.
  • -Working closely with landscape developers/leaders, observe and learn from a LandScale assessment process in a priority landscape in Kenya in view of assessing landscape-scale impacts, and give feedback to the wider initiative.
  • -Identify, document and assess capacity of organizations and networks in Kenya that assume or could assume key roles in ILM capacity building.
