Viet Nam

Overview

Viet Nam is one of the countries in the world with the highest biodiversity and a wide range of ecosystems, including mountains, tropical forests, karst/limestone and marine and coastal ecosystems. Around 10 per cent of Viet Nam’s flora and over 100 bird species are endemic to the country. BES-Net has supported Viet Nam through its national ecosystem assessment to better understand the country’s ecosystems and explore ways to manage and conserve them.

  • With support from the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Institute of Policy and Strategy on Natural Resources of Environment and UNEP-WCMC, Viet Nam launched its assessment report and summary for policymakers in 2022.
  • The Fund will include support for the piloting and operationalization of payments for ecosystem services for particular marine and wetland ecosystems to tap into these potential financial sources for ecosystem protection in Viet Nam.

Implementing agency: Center for Biodiversity Conservation (CBC) under Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA)

Government partner: Institute of Strategy and Policy for Natural Resources and Environment of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
