Cameroon

Overview

Cameroon is one of the most biodiverse countries in Africa, with tropical forests, tropical wooded savannah, semi-arid, montane, freshwater and marine and coastal ecosystems. It is also one of the four countries that received support under the first phase of BES-Net to carry out its national ecosystem assessment process. The process was led by the Network for Environment and Sustainable Development in Africa, with political support from the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development and technical backstopping support from UNEP-WCMC.

  • Cameroon has validated and launched its national ecosystem assessment report and summary for policymakers in 2022.
  • The country received support from BES-Net Phase I to contribute to national efforts addressing land degradation, building on the latest knowledge and evidence.
  • Cameroon is receiving the catalytic BES Solution Fund support under BES-Net Phase II to strengthen its National Platform for Science-Policy Interface on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services and to implement some of the priority recommendations from the ecosystem assessment.
