Description

The Donor Communications Program Manager develops and manages the workflow of various donor-facing products within the California Chapter’s Donor Communications Team. The Program Manager will be responsible for managing a robust editorial calendar, which outlines the workstream for major communication products for TNC’s corporate, foundation, and individual major donors; developing project timelines; tracking assignments across the team; and facilitating meetings to ensure deliverable completion and submission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Donor Communications Program Manager is a key connector on the team as well as across TNC. The main objectives of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Editorial Calendar and Product Workstream: The Program Manager will manage product workflow through an editorial calendar and solve any problems related to product development. These products may include proposals, reports, newsletters, board documents, membership mailings, campaign materials and strategy briefs targeted to TNC’s corporate, foundation and individual major donors. The Program Manager will facilitate meetings to understand product needs and update the editorial calendar as new products come into the pipeline. They will develop timeline coordination emails and systems to ensure that Conservation, Science, Development, and Finance teams are aligned on product needs and that the given deliverable is submitted on time and per the donor’s guidelines.  
  • Providing Operational and Strategic Support to the Donor Communications Team: The Program Manager curates products on internal sharing platforms to improve internal communications between Development, Science, Conservation and Finance staff, and to maximize the utilization and re-purposing of key donor materials. The Program Manager must be an expert in the systems and resources used by the team and apply that knowledge to create efficient processes for managing workflow. They will develop documentation, modify processes, and participate in the enhancement of systems and tools used by the team. They will also support the team in strategic planning.  

The Program Manager works in close cooperation with any or all of the following: TNC staff, donors, trustees, vendors, financial institutions and legal and accounting professionals. They will provide advice, recommendations, and training related to the functional area of the team. They will manage diverse tasks, analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, project outcomes, and implement solutions in order to improve effectiveness. They must be responsive to deadlines and tight timetables and work well under pressure.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Manage and implement multiple projects, including managing editorial calendar, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability.
  • Act independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercising independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Effectively communicate across departments and chapters within the global organization.
  • Develop and implement new processes that will ensure department- and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
