Description

This position is located in UNEP/Ecosystems Division/Marine and Freshwater Branch/Freshwater Ecosystems Unit at the Nairobi duty station.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements and evaluates UNEP’s water initiatives, programmes and projects; monitors monitor and report on overall progress. Review relevant documents and reports; Identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions and liaise with relevant parties ensures follow-up actions.

• Establishes sound working relations with partners e.g. UN agencies involved in SDG6 monitoring such as WHO, UN-Habitat, FAO, UNICEF to build synergies while delivering UNEP contribution to the initiative.

• Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.

• Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.

• Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies,

• Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.

• Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.

• Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.

• Coordinate the Interdivisional Water Group (IDWG).

• Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries.

• Coordinates activities related to budget funding and prepares related documents/reports.

• Acts as the officer in charge when Chief Freshwater Ecosystems Unit is away.

• Perform other duties as may be requested by the Chief of the Freshwater Ecosystems Unit and/or the Coordinator of the Marine and Freshwater Branch.
