This is a one-year contract to support the development of RSPB Cymru’s project pipeline by leading on the development of one or two high impact projects, so they are ready to progress to delivery subject to resources and funding.

Your work programme will depend on your specific skills and experience but could include landscape scale nature-based solution projects and people engagement projects in Cardiff.

Nature-based solution projects will focus on peatland restoration and woodland creation to deliver multiple benefits for priority species and habitats, climate and people.

We are also exploring the next project to build on our exciting Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff Project which is connecting communities and children with nature in our capital city. The current project is a partnership with Cardiff Council Community Rangers and Buglife Cymru.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary team made up of conservation, engagement, ecological and communications experts from within the RSPB and will build relationships with external stakeholders including statutory bodies, environmental NGOs, landowners and community groups. 

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

As Project Development Manager, you could work across a range of different projects requiring different ideas, knowledge and expertise held by others. You will:

• have a proven knowledge of project management principles and their application through working with a standard project management framework
• be able to demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary outside the line management chain and in relationships with external partners at a senior level working across a number of projects at the same time
• have a proven track record at collaborating with and influencing external stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes in major projects including interpreting organisational priorities and recognising how projects can deliver against corporate goals
• be able to demonstrate excellent relationship and communication skills across a wide range of audiences, being able to communicate clearly and effectively (verbally and in writing) to build understanding and consensus to develop shared outcomes
• be able to interpret and process complex information to resolve problems and find creative, workable solutions in the development of project outcomes and outputs
• have proven organisational skills with a methodical and logical approach
• have proven ability and experience of cost and budget management, including working with complex financial systems
• be able to take a strategic overview whilst having an eye for detail when necessary
