Climate change and biodiversity loss, both caused largely by anthropogenic drivers, are mutually reinforcing and posing significant threats for human livelihoods, food security and public health. Given the inseparable nature of climate, biodiversity and human quality of life, resolving either issue will require tackling the other.
BES-Net promotes dialogue and cooperation on the conservation of biodiversity and protection of ecosystem services to create co-benefits for mitigating and adapting to climate change. BES-Net’s support, includes (1) analyzing the interconnection between biodiversity and climate change within the realm of the national ecosystem assessment, (2) implementing ecosystem-based adaptation efforts as part of the IPBES Assessment uptake and (3) featuring and disseminating proven nature-based solutions by BES-Net’s partners.
